Abstract
Background:With new anti‒cancer treatment, both the number of cancer survivors and duration of their survival after treatment is increasing. However, the post‒treatment experiences and the unmet needs of cancer survivors remain unclear. Methods:We conducted two focus‒group interviews(n=5 and n=6)with 11 adult female cancer survivors. All of them had completed their primary anti‒cancer treatment. The two key questions during the interviews were“What situations did you experience when returning to daily life after the end of your primary anti‒cancer treatment?”and “What is needed to help cancer survivors adjust to their daily life?”The recorded content was transcribed and was analyzed using the method of Giorgi. Results:Four main themes emerged from the interviews:(1)Anxiety and joy at the end of the treatment(, 2)“My body needs to be taken care of while I take care of my family”,(3)Lack of systematic and reliable information, and(4)Need for personalized support to help one fully adapt. Conclusion:These results contribute to the understanding of cancer survivors’ adaptation to daily life. They also indicate specific directions and strategies for meeting these women’s unmet needs after anti‒cancer treatment.
