Abstract
[Allergic diseases are regarded as a major social as well as medical issue due to the recent rapid increase in the number of patients. We have previously reported that Eriobotrya japonica seed extract is effective for the control of allergic diseases including pollinosis. This report presents the results of a clinical study on the effectiveness and safety of a soft drink containing Eriobotrya japonica seed extract and deep sea water(test drink)developed by our research group in patients with Japanese cedar pollinosis. Based on a past result, we let many subjects take test drink and report it because we collected the opinion of the subjects. The subjects were volunteers of the adult males and females who had the pollinosis symptom that responded to a public advertisement. Each subject was administered the test drink twice a day for 4 weeks. The effectiveness of the test drink was evaluated according to the questionnaire after end of study(after 4weeks). The subjects consisted of 54 males and 66 females with a mean age of 42.4±13.7 years. The case that was able to observance a taking method was 65.8%. By the evaluation for the ocular and nasal symptoms the subjects judged to be effective 70, 75%, respectively. The taking good subjects which they judged that was effective increased 80, 85%. In addition, there was“Constipation amelioration”,“Edema amelioration”, in the opinion that we collected. These results suggest that the test drink is useful for the management of Japanese cedar pollinosis.(Jpn Pharmacol Ther 2008;36:359−64)KEY WORDS Japanese cedar pollinosis, Eriobotrya japonica seed extract, Deep sea water, Ocular symptoms, Nasal symptoms, Questionnaire, Allergic diseases are regarded as a major social as well as medical issue due to the recent rapid increase in the number of patients.
