Abstract
Objective We evaluated the safety of long︱term or excessive intake of coffee beverage containing indigestible dextrin in healthy adults including the volunteers with mild hyperglycemia (fasting blood glucose level:100︱125 mg╱dL)and╱or mild hypertriglyceridemia(fasting serum triglyceride:150︱199 mg╱dL). Methods To evaluate the safety of long︱term intake of the beverage(150mL)containing 5g of indigestible dextrin, an open︱label trial was conducted. Also, to evaluate the safety of excessive intake of the beverage(150mL)containing 5g of indigestible dextrin, an open︱label trial was conducted. 28 subjects were given the test beverage 3 bags(450 mL)a day with meal for 4 weeks. Result In the long︱term and excessive ingestion trials, no clinical problems were observed in the blood examinations and physical examinations. Conclusion Thus, these results demonstrated the safety of the coffee beverage containing indigestible dextrin in healthy adults including the volunteers with mild hyperglycemia and╱or mild hypertriglyceridemia in the case of the long︱term and excessive intake.
