Abstract
Objectives We developed a coffee beverage supplemented with resistant maltodextrin. In this study, we investigated whether the beverage would suppress the postprandial elevation of serum triglyceride. Methods A double︱blinded crossover trial was performed. The subjects were 90 healthy volunteers(serum triglyceride 120︱200 mg╱dL). The subjects ingested the test coffee beverage containing 5 g(as dietary fiber)of resistant maltodextrin or the control coffee beverage without resistant maltodextrin, together with the high︱fat meal. Blood samples were drawn before and 2, 3, 4 and 6 hours after the ingestion, and their serum triglyceride levels were measured. Result Intake of the test coffee beverage containing resistant maltodextrin significantly suppressed the elevation of postprandial serum triglyceride levels at 2, 3 and 4 hours as compared with those of the control coffee beverage. Conclusion The data obtained through these trials suggested that the coffee beverage supplemented with indigestible dextrin suppresses elevation of serum triglyceride.
