Abstract
Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of continuous gum ingestion on motor function. Methods Twenty-one healthy subjects participated in a randomized, open, parallel-group comparison trial. Subjects were measured for motor function before and after the four weeks gum consumption intervention. Results The static balance in the gum intake group was significantly improved compared to the no-gum intake group, but grip strength, dynamic balance, and bite strength showed no change. Conclusions In conclusion, four weeks of gum consumption suggested improved static balance.(UMIN000047051)(Jpn Pharmacol Ther 2022;50:1591‒6)
