Abstract
Objectives The aim of this study was to confirm the safety of the moisturizing bath cosmetics for symptoms of dryness and desquamation in the patients with mild to moderate dry skin disease( atopic dermatitis, xerosis). Methods A single arm open study was conducted in 42 patients who had mild to moderate dry skin symptoms on the test regions(right forearm, left forearm, right shin, left shin). Safety was evaluated after the use of 5 times or more a week for 4 weeks as primary endpoint. The changes of their symptoms from baseline were also evaluated as secondary endpoints. Results During study period of 4 weeks, no adverse events was observed and the test cosmetics was judged as safe for all the patients. The improvement of dryness and desquamation was observed with about 50% of patients, while no exacerbation occurred in any patients when evaluated by dermatologists. The questionnaire survey showed that patients also reported the improvement of their skin symptoms and their assessment of the study cosmetics were generally satisfactory, especially for the mitigation of itchiness. Conclusions The study cosmetics was evaluated as safe to be used by patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis and╱or xerosis who have minor to moderate dry skin symptoms.
