Abstract

To investigate whether oxidized high density lipoprotein 2（ ox?HDL2） is superior to native high density lipoprotein 2（ n?HDL2） in providing cholesterol to lymphocytes. For Cu2＋ ?induced HDL2 oxidation, HDL2 was incubated with 2.5 μM Cu2＋ in phosphate ?buffered saline. Ox ?HDL2 and n?HDL2 were subjected to assays for lipid hydroperoxide （LPO）, and measurement of capacity to provide cholesterol to human blood lymphocytes via apo B,E （low density lipoprotein） receptors. The LPO of ox ?HDL2 was significantly higher than the value for n ?HDL2. The significant increment in capacity to provide cholesterol to lymphocytes was apparent with ox ?HDL2. Ox ?HDL2 was superior to n?HDL2 at providing cholesterol to lymphocytes. It is suggested that the physical character for ligand interaction with apo B,E （low density lipoprotein）receptors in ox?HDL2 might be changed by oxidation and ox?HDL2 is a better provider of cholesterol to lymphocytes than is n ?HDL2.
