Abstract
We evaluated long‒term effects of empagliflozin(EMPA)administration for 36 months in 48 Japenese out‒patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. EMPA administration tended to improve renal function in the patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate corrected by HbA1c(eGFRc)below 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and significantly increased from 60 to below 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 at 36 months after the start of 10 mg/day EMPA. On the other hand, EMPA significantly decreased eGFRc, indicating an improvement of hyperfiltration in the patients with eGFRc 90 or more mL/min/1.73 m2. It is suggested that EMPA administration for 36 months totally tended to normalize altered renal function by hyperglycemia in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
