Abstract
Introduction:Since many elderly people have aphasia, it is desirable to perform a hearing test as a test battery for evaluation. This time, we conducted a standard aphasia test and a standard pure sound hearing/speech discrimination test for a case of suspected corticobasal degeneration with aphasia accompanied by age‒related deafness. We considered whether it would affect it. Case and Progress:Male in his 80s. One year before admission, he couldn’t speak as expected and he presented with non‒fluency aphasia. His aphasia symptoms improved after the administration of L‒dopa on the 7th day of his hospitalization. Results:Following Standard Language Test of Aphasia(SLTA)’s oral instructions improved from 60% to 90%. There was no change in moderate age‒related deafness before and after L‒dopa administration. Differences in the way monosyllables were misheard before and after L‒dopa administration were observed. Discussion:Although the decline in SLTA performance had a major effect on age‒related deafness, it cannot be ruled out that post‒maze deafness may have affected it.
