Abstract
Objective:This study aimed to provide citizens with more understandable information about clinical research and to clarify problems and challenges of the current“Clinical Trials Information Search Portal Site”(hereafter, portal site), created and opened to the public by the National Institute of Public Health, with the goal of improving patient usability. Methods:In 2018‒2019, we conducted a questionnaire and interview survey of the general population, including healthy individuals and people affected by diseases, aged≧20 years, to identify problems with the current portal site. We gathered their opinions regarding improvements to make the portal site easily understandable and user‒friendly. Results:Participants shared opinions regarding the font size, color, and the documentation method, which do not sufficiently address patients’ needs and feelings regarding clinical trials. They suggested that the font size be increased and that the site should include latest information about the status of clinical trials. Conclusion:We plan to continue improving the usability of the portal site. We believe that by allowing patients and health care workers to obtain relevant information, this portal site will help promote clinical trials and contribute to the advancement of medical care.
