Abstract
Globin digest(GD)is a commercially available oligopeptide mixture derived from edibleproteins developed to effectively lower serum triglyceride levels and to regulate dietary fatmetabolism. In this study, the effect of GD on blood glucose and serum insulin in the modelof type 2 diabetes, KK−Ay mice, was examined. GD decreased the level of blood glucose inKK−Ay mice and suppressed the elevation of blood glucose in oral glucose tolerance test andinsulin tolerance test of KK−Ay mice. Furthermore, GD elevated the level of serum insulinin KK−Ay mice and in oral glucose tolerance test of KK−Ay mice, and promoted the use ofinsulin in insulin tolerance test of KK−Ay mice. The promotion of insulin secretion and itsuse by GD may be critical for the suppression of blood glucose.(Jpn Pharmacol Ther 2008;36:1045−50)KEY WORDS Globin digest, Type 2 diabetes, KK−Ay, Glucose, Insulin
