Abstract
Objectives Procyanidins have been shown to inhibit pancreatic lipase. A previous examination reported a single dose of kiwifruit-derived procyanidins(KPC)prevented the absorption equivalent to 15 g of lipid from meal. We examined whether the mechanism of lipid absorption inhibitory action improves body composition in terms of body weight and body fat. Methods We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group comparative trial on 60 healthy people with BMI ≥23 for 12 weeks. Results Compared to the placebo group, the KPC group significantly decreased body fat mass, body weight, BMI, and abdominal circumference. Conclusions KPC could improve body composition by reducing body fat, body weight, abdominal circumference, and BMI.(UMIN-CTR ID:UMIN000044540)(Jpn Pharmacol Ther 2022;50:1817‒27)
